Furness Roofing Ltd was started in 1989 by Mark Furness, a Yorkshire-born roofer who learned his trade the old way — on the tools, in all weathers, taught by experienced lead workers and slaters. What began as a one-man firm quickly became a trusted local name, fixing roofs on terraces, semis and stone cottages right across the Heckmondwike, Batley and Dewsbury area.

More than thirty-five years later, we’re still here, still family-run and still doing the work ourselves. Over the years we’ve seen plenty of fly-by-night firms come and go — we’ve re-done our share of their jobs. What keeps us busy isn’t clever marketing; it’s a genuinely strong local reputation, word of mouth from one neighbour to the next, and the fact that we stand behind every roof we build.

We think of ourselves as traditional roofers with modern standards. We still take the time to hand-bed ridges and dress lead flashings properly — and we also invest in the best modern materials: breathable membranes, fibre-reinforced GRP flat roofing, EPDM rubber systems, and premium uPVC rooflines that will look sharp for decades.
